wristreleve
developed and patented by James A. Dray, D.C.
The Problem....................
Cumulative Trauma Disorder (CTD)
is primarily caused by repetitive motion.
It has now surpassed back injury in
worker's compensation costs, lost
productivity and suffering.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
is the best known of a number of
conditions that comprise CTD'S, including
tendonitis, tennis elbow, and bursitis.
These conditions may develop as a result
of repeated microtrauma to the soft
tissues of the wrist, forearm, hand and elbow.
Causes of CTD'S
may include gross repeated movements
such as hammering and wrenching
by a carpenter or mechanic; fine
motor movements such as assembling parts,
using a computer mouse, typing, etc.;
fractures of the wrist;
even pregnancy is implicated.
Any narrowing of the diameter of the
carpal tunnel will place the tendons,
bursa, blood vessels and nerves that pass
through the tunnel under stress and
will eventually lead to symptoms.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Causes: Typing, computer mouse use,
data entry, hammering, wrenching,
twisting, or any repetitve movements
of the hand and wrist can be causes.
Any condition which may result
in swelling in the wrist, such as
bony fracture, sprain, or pregnancy
may also be a cause.
Symptoms: Early symptoms may
consist only of aching in the hand,
wrist or elbow area following heavy
activity. More advanced cases may
include nighttime aching pain, elbow
pain (tennis elbow), pain with
movement, numbness in the first four
fingers, loss of grip strength, loss
of dexterity, swelling in the forearm,
and/or wrist area and severe pain.
Treatment: Until now, treatment
has consisted of wrist splints of varying
types and styles to prevent movement
of the hand, wrist and forearm; rest
and removal of aggravating activity;
analgesics for pain control;
anti-inflammatory medications;
cortisone injections and whan all else
fails, surgery. No really effective
treatment has yet been devised.

About the Carpal Tunnel...... wrist diagram
The Carpal Tunnel is formed by the end of the long bones of the forearm, the small bones of the wrist called the carpals, and by a thick fibrous band of connective tissue called the Flexor Retinaculum, which forms the floor of the tunnel. The diameter of the tunnel is barely large enough to accommodate the tendons, bursa, blood vessels and nerves that pass through the wrist. Any narrowing of the tunnel due to trauma or swelling of any of the soft tissues will result in mechanical restriction of the structures that move through the tunnel. Movements of the hand and wrist compress the median nerve on the unyielding flexor retinaculum, causing pain, numbness, tingling, loss of grip strength, loss of dexterity and can ultimately cause damage to the nerve.

The Solution....................

The Wristreleve corrective wrist support represents a new concept in the treatment of CTD'S of the hand, wrist and forearm. Unlike existing splints, the Wristreleve support does not limit or interfere with dexterity. Unlike wrist straps, the Wristreleve support does not put pressure on the entire circumference of the wrist and thus does not put pressure on the area of the wrist where the tendons, blood vessels, nerves and bursa reside.

The Wristreleve support is an innovative design that gently compresses and torsions the bones of the wrist to relax the flexor retinaculum and create a lifting effect on the roof of the carpal tunnel to reverse carpal tunnel prolapse.
The result is reduced pressure and stress on the tendons, bursa and nerves that run through the tunnel.

The Wristreleve support is meant to be worn by anyone who has the signs of CTD or who is at risk of developing CTD. It is easy to get on and off, long lasting and supports either wrist.
Wristreleve is available at our office, or by calling 1-800-677-0355.
